Proposed food waste de-packing facility in Ocala faces local opposition over odors

Marion County officials are set to review a proposal for a new human food-grade de-packing facility in Ocala that would turn commercial food waste into soil additives, with local residents having expressed concerns about severe smells.

The Marion County Board of County Commissioners will meet on Tuesday, June 2, to issue a final vote on a proposal for a human food-grade de-packing facility in Ocala.

Wood Resource Recovery of Marion County, LLC, in partnership with Denali Water Solutions, has filed a Special Use Permit application to add the operation to an existing 36.77-acre vegetative debris composting facility located at 8510 and 8548 NW Gainesville Road.
