Marion County Fire Rescue mourns firefighter killed in vehicle crash: ‘Dedicated his life to serving others’

OCALA, Fla. (WCJB) – Marion County Fire Rescue (MCFR) officials say one of their own was killed in a vehicle crash.

Firefighter/EMT Evan Lewis was wounded in a crash on Sunday, and he was unable to recover from his injuries. On Thursday, family, friends, and co-workers gathered at Orlando Regional Medical Center for an Honor Walk, and his organs were donated.

“Evan dedicated his life to serving others,” said Fire Chief James Banta. “Even in the face of unimaginable tragedy, he continued that mission. In his last act of service, Evan saved multiple lives through his gifts as an organ donor. His compassion, dedication, and commitment to helping others will never be forgotten. We ask our community to keep Evan’s family, friends, and our Marion County Fire Rescue family in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”…
