Community rallies to renovate longtime Gainesville teacher’s home

When local teacher Terry, who asked that her last name not be published, returned to her Gainesville home on Aug. 3 after spending two months away, it looked nothing like it had when she left. Fresh paint, updated landscaping, new flooring, countertops and appliances, along with a working air-conditioning unit made the home anew.

The renovation, worth nearly $35,000, was organized by The Mills Group, a local real estate team, with the help of dozens of volunteers and donated labor and materials from businesses across the community.

“I cannot be more grateful for the entire community coming in and volunteering their time,” Terry said moments after stepping inside her northwest Gainesville home. “I don’t even have the words right now to express my gratitude, but I tell you what: each and every volunteer is going to get a thank you note from me.”…
