Jujitsu instructor’s victim sues Halifax, UF in rape case | Exclusive

A young woman who was 18 when her jujitsu instructor raped her at Halifax Health Medical Center where he worked as a nurse, has filed a lawsuit against him, Halifax Health in Daytona Beach, Shands Hospital in Gainesville and the University of Florida Board of Trustees.

The 40-count lawsuit filed Aug. 21 in Volusia County Circuit Court alleges that Halifax Health was negligent in its security procedures and supervision of Joel T. Gingery, the ex-nurse and former Ormond Beach jujitsu instructor now in state prison.

Gingery was employed by the University of Florida as a nurse anesthetist who was working at Halifax Health Medical Center when he was accused of raping the young woman, which is why the school is involved in the legal action…
