Schools in Ocala, Lake City disrupted due to threats; lockdowns lifted

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – Authorities in Marion and Columbia Counties placed schools on lockdown due to reported threats.

Lake City Middle School Threat

A student was arrested after a false weapon report prompted a lockdown at Lake City Middle School on Monday.

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office said a 14-year-old student joked about losing a gun they brought in their backpack around noon. Officials placed the school on lockdown and determined no weapon was present.

The student was arrested on charges of falsely reporting a weapon on campus and for disrupting the school day, according to the sheriff’s office.
