Latest DOH-Marion Rabies Alert Issued After Rabid Raccoon Found in Ocala Area

MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – The Florida Department of Health in Marion County has issued a 60-day rabies alert after a raccoon found in the Ocala area tested positive for rabies.

The alert was announced Thursday, May 14, 2026, following confirmation of a rabid raccoon that was killed near SE Eighth Street on May 11.

Health officials said rabies is currently present in the wild animal population in the area and warned residents and visitors to avoid contact with wild or stray animals…
