PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Heavy winds helped flame a fast-moving fire that engulfed several power poles and buildings in south Phoenix late Monday night.
Around 10:45 p.m., Phoenix firefighters received reports of a pole fire near 8th Street and Southern Avenue. Crews found multiple power poles on fire when they arrived, with heavy winds pushing the flames to nearby buildings.
Three structures, brush, trees, debris and power poles were scorched from the blaze. Firefighters used handlines to attack different parts of the fire and the buildings, attempting to surround the blaze and prevent it from spreading further.
Due to the fire’s size and the strong winds, more firefighters and resources were requested. Crews eventually contained the flames despite the difficult conditions…
