Peoria school board clashes over revised DEI policy

PEORIA, AZ (AZFamily) — A Peoria Unified School District governing board meeting turned contentious Thursday night as board members disagreed over proposed revisions to the district’s “anti-DEI” policy.

Board members criticized each other in front of parents and students during the meeting. The policy previously unified the board, but it is now threatening to divide district leaders.

Board members debate definition of DEI

“Can you define what DEI is?” board member Janelle Bowels asked board president Jeff Tobey.

Tobey responded, “I’m not going to sit here and do a definition class with you. DEI is defined as many things that are different and that’s why these revisions are being brought forward.”…
