Friends say man shot, killed in Grand Rapids was ‘well-loved’

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A man was shot and killed early Sunday morning outside a Grand Rapids bar. Loved ones told News 8 his name was Angel Rivas.

Around 1:40 a.m., Rivas, 32, was shot on Division Avenue near Rose Street and taken to the hospital where he later died.

For more than 15 years, Monae Cross shared all of life’s big moments with Rivas. Now that’s he’s gone, she’s still trying to keep his name and memory out there by continuing projects he started.

“He was very quick on his feet. Very smart and he always cared about everybody. He always made sure everybody was OK and had what they needed,” Cross said.
