Michigan reports first West Nile virus detection of 2026

West Nile virus has been identified in mosquito samples in Kent County.

The Kent County Health Department detected the virus in mosquitoes from the 49504 and 49519 ZIP codes, marking the first known positive sample this year in Michigan. Health officials used the detection, announced Tuesday, June 2, to remind residents of symptoms to watch for and how to limit mosquito bites.
