GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Four finalists have been chosen in the search for Grand Rapids’ next police chief.
The city on Thursday announced the finalists:
- Mark Bliss, a deputy chief with the Detroit Police Department who leads the Crime Strategies Bureau and has more than 25 years of law enforcement experience
- Rafael Diaz, a police captain with the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety and licensed attorney with more than 27 years of public safety experience
- Eve Stephens, a retired Austin Police Department commander and the former chief of police for the University of Texas at Austin, who has more than 25 years of law enforcement experience and 11 years of executive experience
- Joseph Trigg, the interim police chief of the Grand Rapids Police Department, who has more than 25 years of law enforcement experience
Next, the finalists will take part in two community engagement events at City Hall on June 17. A meet-and-greet is scheduled for 5:45 p.m. at the Calder Plaza level. Then, a public forum will get underway at 7 p.m. in the commission chambers. Both events are open to the community, and Spanish interpretation will be available.
