A friend of mine is infuriated by one guy out there whose sole purpose in life is to break/set as many world records as humanly possible. So far, David Rush has broken over 200 records involving weirdly specific records like “most kiwis sliced in one using a samurai sword while standing on a swiss ball”. Not to say this isn’t impressive, it’s just very niche.

Technically speaking, you can get a world record for just about anything, and as it turns out, there are quite a few people in Grand Rapids who have set world records that are impressive in their own right – some in scale, some in talent, some in curiosity.
Grand Rapids has one famous world record that went viral years ago: the Grand Rapids Lip Dub, which involved over 5,000 people and now has 6 million views on YouTube.
While this is the best-known record set in the city, there have been several other notable world records in our time. Many of them are related to ArtPrize, the annual art competition that turns Grand Rapids into a large art exhibit (and gives people the opportunity to do some pretty absurd things)…
