Elderly driver hospitalized, south US-131 in Grand Rapids backed up after crash

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — An elderly pickup truck driver is in the hospital after he crashed into the back of a broken down semi truck on south US-131 Thursday morning.

Driving a pickup truck south on US-131 just after the Martin Luther King Jr. Street entrance ramp Thursday before 5:15 a.m., an 86-year-old Lowell man crashed into the back of a disabled, stopped semi truck, according to Michigan State Police (MSP) troopers.

Emergency responders took the pickup driver to the hospital for serious injuries, troopers said.

The 35-year-old Montague man driving the semi truck is not hurt. Troopers said his semi truck broke down and partially blocked the right lane of traffic just before the crash…
