GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A Guatemalan man was sentenced to federal prison for assaulting an immigration officer.
41-year-old Enrique Lopez-Mejia was sentenced to 24 months for assaulting and resisting a United States Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) officer.

Immigration agents attempted to stop a vehicle occupied by Lopez-Mejia and others with mixed immigration statuses, according to a release from U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Michigan Timothy VerHey.
According to federal investigators, Lopez-Mejia attempted to evade officers by driving erratically, stopping abruptly, then fleeing from his car in Grand Rapids.
