GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Owners of local Mexican restaurant, 7 Mares, hosted a community fundraiser after being forced to close their restaurant doors in July.
The family-run restaurant opened a food truck at Oakdale Park Church in grand Rapids for the weekend after a fire destroyed their kitchen, forcing them to close their restaurant weeks prior. Proceeds from the event will go directly towards efforts to, “rebuild and also to support our employees that unfortunately haven’t been working since we’ve been closed,” owner of 7 Mares Lily Arias, told News 8.

From 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, community members and loyal customers of 7 Mares were invited to show their support and try some of the restaurant’s most popular menu items such as tacos, quesabirrias and pizzadillas.
“My mom’s worked very hard for 27 years, having the restaurant running by herself. So to see our customers and even new customers come and show the support means a lot to us,” Arias said.
