GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) – A 70-year-old hiker who had disappeared during a hike on an island in Lake Superior was rescued over the weekend by Michigan State Police and the U.S. Coast Guard.
Craig Berg from Oakland County arrived at Michigan’s Isle Royale National Park on Aug. 27 for a week of solo hiking, according to the National Park Service. When he didn’t come home on Sept. 5, his family filed a report for an overdue hiker.

Search crews started their hunt on Sunday, Sept. 6. Berg was ultimately found on Saturday, Sept. 12, injured and hypothermic.
An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from the Coast Guard’s Air Station Traverse City was able to pull Berg aboard and transport him to an airport in Gwinn, Michigan, where he was taken to a local hospital…
