Once the iconic Old Kent Bank building, 111 Lyon prepares for residents

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A downtown Grand Rapids icon will soon be filled with new life.

First built in 1966, the 111 Lyon St. building originally served as the regional headquarters of Old Kent Bank before it the bank was acquired by Fifth Third Bank.

“This building represented a pretty significant part of Grand Rapids history,” CWD Managing Partner Sam Cummings said. “At the time, there were a lot of folks fleeing urban centers, building malls, and at the time it was a very vehicular-centric design. And this location is kind of the birthplace of the private-public partnership that Grand Rapids has become famous for.”…
