City of Grand Rapids issues reminder about teen curfew ordinance

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The City of Grand Rapids is reminding residents of their curfew law for kids and teens as the summer months near.

The city’s curfew ordinance has a cutoff time that young people can be in public unsupervised:

  • Children under 11 need to be in by 10 p.m.
  • Children aged 12, 13 and 14 need to be in by 11 p.m.
  • 15 and 16-year-olds need to be in by 12  a.m. (midnight)

The ordinance does not apply if the child or teen is with a parent or guardian.

“This is also a good time to remind teens and families that riders under 18 are not allowed to operate the City’s e-scooters and e-bikes and for everyone to remember that these devices are not allowed to operate on sidewalks in the downtown area,” said Deputy Chief P.J. Baker. “We want residents and visitors alike to enjoy all the things Grand Rapids has to offer this summer, and that starts with recognizing that everyone has a role in keeping our community safe.”…
