Grand Rapids program aims to turn river investment into business opportunities

GRAND RAPIDS, MI — With millions being invested in parks, trails and other attractions along the Grand River, Grand Rapids officials are launching a program to help local entrepreneurs turn that activity into business opportunities.

The Grand River Economic Opportunity Initiative, a partnership between Downtown Grand Rapids Inc. and Start Garden, aims to highlight opportunities ranging from construction and maintenance to retail, dining, outdoor recreation and hospitality services.

“This initiative is meant to create on-ramps for entrepreneurs,” said James Peacock III, economic opportunity program manager at DGRI, adding that the goal is to help develop new ideas for the riverfront that haven’t yet been envisioned…
