NORTHEAST WI- An Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect through Tuesday evening for much of Northeast Wisconsin, including Shawano, Brown, Outagamie and Waupaca counties. Heat index values could reach as high as 109 degrees, creating dangerous conditions for anyone spending time outdoors.
Health officials are urging residents to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day, wear lightweight clothing, and take frequent breaks in air-conditioned buildings. It’s also important to check on elderly neighbors, young children, and anyone without adequate cooling.
Heat exhaustion occurs when the body begins struggling to keep itself cool. Warning signs include heavy sweating, weakness, headache, dizziness, nausea, muscle cramps, a rapid heartbeat, and cool, clammy skin.
