GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – Local auto shops say they are already feeling the impact of rising crude oil prices, which are now pushing up the cost of synthetic motor oil.
Gas prices climb statewide
The effect was first seen in gas prices. The average price of regular gas in Wisconsin is now about $4.34 a gallon, up 61 cents since Sept. 8.
In Outagamie County, the average was already above $4 a gallon Wednesday.
Wisconsin diesel is now at a record $6.19 a gallon.
Synthetic oil costs rise
Higher crude oil prices are also pushing up the cost of synthetic motor oil. Costco recently raised the price of a 10-quart case of Kirkland full synthetic oil to about $58, up from about $30 prior.
Local shops pass on costs
The price pressure is reaching local repair shops. Mechanics say their wholesale suppliers are charging more, and that cost is showing up on customers’ bills…
