Elevated severe weather risk for Monday

WISCONSIN — Strong to severe thunderstorms are looking pretty certain for much of the state on Monday. If fact, there could be multiple rounds throughout Monday into early Tuesday.

Wave #1 (6 a.m. – 11 a.m. Monday) arrives Monday morning. The main concern will be large hail. However, a few folks in northern Wisconsin may have to watch out for some strong wind gusts. Also, anticipate thunder and lightning.

Wave #2 (4 p.m. – 9 p.m. Monday) slides in during the afternoon and early evening. Thunderstorm development is highly dependent on earlier activity. If thunderstorms are able to ignite, storms could quickly become severe, producing large hail, damaging wind gusts and isolated tornadoes.

Wave #3 (9 p.m. Monday – 3 a.m. Tuesday) rumbles through the state overnight. Expect a line of thunderstorms working from west to east with the strongest storms in western Wisconsin (La Crosse, Hayward and Eau Claire). The line will weaken slightly as it approaches Lake Michigan. All types of severe weather are possible with large hail and damaging as the main threats. However, a few embedded tornadoes may spin-up along the main line.
