As waters warm, Wisconsin DNR says the start of sturgeon spawning is near

(WLUK) — It won’t be long before lake sturgeon start to make their run up the Wolf River, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says.

According to the DNR, sturgeon usually spawn when the water temperature is about 53 degrees Fahrenheit. Sturgeon have already been seen moving into their pre-spawning locations on the Wolf River.

Officials said as of Monday, significant pre-spawning activity has been seen at Princeton and spawning will likely begin there in the next few days. Sturgeon are visible at New London and Shiocton, with some fish seen cruising at Shiocton. Water temperatures there are 52 degrees. No activity has been reported near Shawano, with water temperatures sitting at 46 degrees…
