PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) —While Thursday may have been the hottest day of the year, this afternoon we’ll have the potential to be even hotter! We’re starting our morning with lows in the mid 70s, already a very warm start to the day. We’ll see temperatures climb into the upper 90s this afternoon with feels-like temperatures in the triple digits. A heat advisory will go into effect at 11 AM and remain in place until 8 PM due to potential feels-like temps of 102°+.

A level 2 risk for severe weather is in place due to the potential of severe thunderstorms capable of producing 60+ mph winds. The overall chance for rain/storms is low but there’s enough energy to support the risk for strong/severe storms.
The heat sticks around this weekend with morning lows both days in the low 70s and highs in the low to mid 90s. Humidity makes temperatures feel like the upper 90s or even the triple digits Saturday and Sunday. Skies are mostly sunny on Saturday and the potential for isolated storms is low at 20%. Sunday brings partly cloudy skies and a slightly better chance to see isolated thunderstorms. The chance for rain/storms Sunday is 40%…
