A few storms tonight before clearing late

Heat index values have climbed near or above 105° across many inland communities, prompting a Heat Advisory through early evening. If you are spending time outside, take breaks, drink plenty of water, and watch for signs of heat stress.

Scattered storms are developing along the sea breeze this afternoon. Not everyone will see rain, but storms that do form could become strong to severe. The main threats are damaging wind gusts, frequent lightning, and heavy rainfall.

A second round of storms may move in from central North Carolina and Virginia this evening into tonight. This round could impact parts of Eastern NC after sunset, especially northern areas. While storms may weaken some overnight, enough wind energy remains in the atmosphere for a few storms to produce strong wind gusts…
