PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) —There is a Level 2/Slight Risk of severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. The primary threat will be from damaging winds, though some storms may also produce large hail.
An approaching cold front will push heat and humidity into the Piedmont today. Highs will be in the lower-90s with a heat index in the upper-90s. In the late afternoon and evening, thunderstorms are expected to develop, and some storms may be strong to severe. We are expecting storms to develop as early as 4 p.m. in our mountain counties and rumble across the Piedmont-Triad between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. The chance of rain today is 80%.
The cold front arrives tomorrow morning, bringing scattered showers for the morning commute. Lows are going to be near 70 degrees and the chance of rain is 40%.
Once the front moves to our east midday on Tuesday, skies clear out nicely and the humidity drops. Enjoy highs in the mid-80s. High pressure builds southward, toward the Mid-Atlantic, bringing similar weather on Wednesday, with mostly sunny skies and highs in the upper-80s.
A second cold front, moving across the Midwest on Thursday, pushes in another round of hotter temperatures that will endure through the weekend.
