Car crashes in fire truck blocking traffic in Guilford County; EMS reminds drivers to move over

GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — A Saturday night crash that prompted a large response from first responders ended with a second vehicle crashing into the scene.

First responders got the call that a car had crashed going westbound along I-40/85 towards Greensboro just before 11 p.m. Among the agencies that responded was Guilford County’s fire operations division, including Rescue 50, which is located on Franz Warner Parkway in Whitsett.

Guilford County EMS public information officer Scott Muthersbaugh said a fire truck was parked, blocking the scene from traffic. He said this is a widely used practice called the Traffic Incident Management System.

“That’s where you use a large apparatus and just try to block the scene,” Muthersbaugh said. “So, you often park at a bit of an angle, and you just provide shielding from the traffic to the personnel working out in the roadway.”…
