About 10 years ago, Taylor Collier and her husband were visiting downtown Mebane for the first time. The city’s center was quaint — bustling, but quiet. Unassuming and friendly. Retailers, restaurants, ice cream store, a coffee shop, bank, etc. Surprisingly, it lacked a place to buy books.
Collier, who said she spent much of her childhood tucked in the pages of science-fiction/fantasy, before moving later in life to romance and historical fiction, took note of the absence of a bookstore.
