GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — The City of Greensboro is exploring a plan to shut down the 200 block of South Elm Street to create more room for pedestrians to enjoy downtown.
The concept is part of the city’s GSO35 strategic plan, and Rob Overman, interim executive director of Downtown Greensboro Inc., said city officials and DGI have been discussing the idea for the last few years.

“We see it, and we hear it, and we experience it for ourselves, and our downtown community knows it’s an issue,” Overman said.
Plans are still in the development stage, but Overman said the city is looking to close the 200 block of South Elm Street, from February 1 Place to Washington Street, for a three-month pilot period.
