RALEIGH, NC — Saturday is not expected to be a washout across North Carolina, with a dry start and plenty of dry time throughout the day. A cold front moving into the mountains will bring scattered showers by lunchtime, while rain from South Carolina moves into southeast North Carolina through early afternoon. Scattered showers and even a thunderstorm are possible this afternoon and evening, with the highest odds south of Raleigh. Rain coverage will increase somewhat statewide through the evening and overnight hours.
Dry Morning With Increasing Clouds Across the State
Saturday morning is starting dry across North Carolina, with most places seeing partly to mostly cloudy skies. Clouds are expected to increase throughout the day as the cold front approaches.
Future radar at 11 AM shows most of central and eastern North Carolina staying dry. Raleigh, Durham, Charlotte, Greensboro, and Winston-Salem are shown without rain during the late morning hours.
Showers Develop in the Mountains as the Cold Front Arrives
The cold front is moving into the mountains, bringing a few scattered showers by around lunchtime. Radar shows showers near Sparta, Mount Airy, and Spruce Pine, along with activity near Bristol and Johnson City.
These mountain showers are expected to remain scattered rather than widespread. Outdoor plans in western North Carolina should still have dry periods mixed in with passing showers.
