Suspect arrested in fatal Burlington hit-and-run that killed moped rider, police say

BURLINGTON, N.C. (WGHP) — A moped rider was killed in a hit-and-run crash on Friday afternoon, according to the Burlington Police Department.

At around 12:40 p.m. on Friday, officers came to Tucker Street after getting a call about a crash.

Investigators say that a man on a moped, later identified as Robert Clinton Slade, 57, of Burlington, was hit by a van that did not remain at the scene and drove away.

Slade was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Police identified the suspect as Roberto Marin-Mejia, 44, of Graham. He currently has outstanding warrants for felony hit-and-run resulting in death.

Marin-Mejia’s whereabouts were initially unknown.

Police later announced that they arrested Marin-Mejia on Saturday afternoon. He is being held on no bond.

The investigation is ongoing.
