Authorities link suspects to chop shop, $263,000 in stolen vehicles in Piedmont Triad

RANDOLPH COUNTY, N.C. — A months-long, multi-agency investigation into a suspected chop shop and a series of high-end vehicle thefts across the Piedmont Triad has led to criminal charges against two men, according to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation began after the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Interdiction Team Urban Unit identified a suspected chop shop on York Martin Road in Liberty on Dec. 26, 2025, with support from the Patrol Division. Deputies found a 2017 Dodge Charger R/T and a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee stripped to its frame. Both vehicles were later confirmed stolen from Greensboro.

Detectives worked alongside the National Insurance Crime Bureau and the Greensboro Police Department to identify suspects in the case. Investigators developed probable cause to charge Charles Samuel Davis, of Asheboro, with multiple felonies, including altering/destroying a stolen motor vehicle, possession of stolen vehicle parts with altered identification, operating a chop shop and two counts of possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
