Senate leaders are pushing a bill that would freeze property value assessments for a year in 12 N.C. counties, which they say can allow time to reconsider statewide property tax policy. Asheville, Greensboro and High Point would be the biggest cities affected.
Senate Bill 889, sponsored by Senate leader Phil Berger and others, was approved by the chamber’s Finance committee on Wednesday and is on a fast track to a floor vote.
