GREENSBORO, N.C. — Guilford County prosecutors will not seek the death penalty against Ricky Lam in the case tied to the death of Amber Schimmelpfenning, according to newly filed court documents.
The order states prosecutors determined “no aggravating circumstances exist” under North Carolina law and that the case “should not be tried as a capital case.” The filing says the decision was made at the discretion of the State.
