Burroughs leads South Stokes in NCHSAA 2A State Track & Field Championship

GREENSBORO — Brooke Burroughs put on a multi-event performance for the ages, and senior Dorthy Diaz added valuable points in the throwing events as the South Stokes Sauras girls finished 13th overall with 14 points at the NCHSAA 2A State Track and Field Championship on Wednesday, May 13, at Marcus T. Johnson Track and Field in Greensboro.

Burroughs, a senior versatile enough to compete in the horizontal jumps, triple jump and high jump, was South Stokes’ most valuable contributor on the day.

She posted her best finish in the long jump, clearing 17 feet, 0.50 inches to claim third place — just six inches behind runner-up Ty’Tiana Clemons of North Rowan (17-4) and eight inches shy of champion Goodness Nsofor of Mountain Island Charter School, who won with a mark of 17-11.75…
