Eden man charged with kidnapping, rape after police conduct welfare check on South Fieldcrest Road

EDEN, N.C. — An Eden man is facing multiple felony charges, including rape and kidnapping, following a welfare check at a Rockingham County home earlier this week.

Officers arrested Tony Russell Whitt Jr., 46, after responding Monday to a welfare check on South Fieldcrest Road. Officers said they safely assisted a woman from the residence before making contact with Whitt, the home’s resident.

Police said they secured warrants charging Whitt with first-degree forcible rape, first-degree forcible sex offense, first-degree kidnapping, breaking and entering a motor vehicle with theft, assault with a deadly weapon with serious injury, assault by strangulation, crime of domestic violence, stalking, interfering with emergency communications and possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance…
