PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — It’s only May, but conditions outside today are going to be more like mid-July.
Get ready for a hot and hazy day as temperatures return to the lower-90s and ozone levels rise to a Code Orange.
We will have mostly sunny skies through mid-afternoon, then partly cloudy conditions as the day wraps up. Along the Blue Ridge, there is a 20% chance of showers around dinnertime, though the chance of rain there is expected to increase overnight. The Piedmont stays mostly clear tonight with lows in the mid-60s.
A new weather pattern develops tomorrow as a cold front settles into central North Carolina. Our rain chances soar to 90% on Thursday with showers and thunderstorms rumbling through the day. Highs stay warm, in the mid-80s.
On Friday, a coastal low is going to reinforce a steady, northeast breeze across the Piedmont. As the cold front sags southward, temperatures cool to the lower-70s on Friday with a 60% chance of showers.
The Memorial Day Weekend will adopt a very summerlike pattern, with a steady warm-up and scattered, afternoon thunderstorms. The cold front that brought cool weather on Friday is forecast to surge northward as a warm front. This will cause highs to hit the mid- to upper-70s Saturday and Sunday, then lower-80s on Memorial Day and Tuesday. Rain chances hover between 40% and 50% through the beginning of next week…
