Several North Carolina lakes see dropping water levels ahead of Memorial Day weekend

GREENSBORO, N.C. — As dry conditions continue across central North Carolina, several lakes are reporting lower-than-normal water levels heading into one of the busiest weekends of the year for boating and fishing.

In Greensboro, city officials say the situation is not critical yet, but crews are closely monitoring conditions and hoping for rain in the coming days.

“We’re still recreating. We’re still utilizing. For our drinking water, we’re still able to access the lakes, no problem,” said Michael Romano, the environmental education lake supervisor for the City of Greensboro. “We’re just still hoping for a little rain for it to bring the levels up, but we’re keeping an eye on it.”…
