GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — After continued delays, neighbors are skeptical yet hopeful the Piggly Wiggly in south Greensboro will open in 2026, bringing a much-needed grocery option to the area.
The signage is up, the cart return is installed and shelves are inside, but those shelves remain bare.

The owner said that after getting some required state approvals, they are planning a June soft opening. But it’s something neighbors like Gloria Rankin have heard before. The owner reported multiple delays in 2025.
Neighbor Speaks Out
“When people hear that the Piggly Wiggly is coming, they said, ‘When is it coming? When is it coming?’ because at one time, a couple of years ago, it was supposed to be … here then, and it never showed up,” Rankin said.
