FIRST ALERT: Two More Rounds of Rain, Drier Next Week

GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – After getting a taste of sunshine and drier air today, a cold front returns to the Western Carolinas tonight, bringing back showers and thunderstorms. This is the tail end of the unsettled pattern before calmer, drier conditions move in and stick around for most of next week.

Leave the Umbrellas at Home

Friday brings us a beautiful summer day! You can leave the umbrellas at home today with a dry and partly cloudy day. Highs are a bit cooler than Thursday, topping out in the low to mid 80s and it’s a little less humid than earlier in the week.

What to Expect This Weekend

Tonight and Saturday bring the main impact. A cold front pushes back into the region tonight, triggering scattered to widespread showers and thunderstorms. Some of these storms may produce heavy rainfall, especially across the western Upstate and Northeast Georgia. The threat for isolated flash flooding exists, particularly if storms train over the same location. Temperatures stay mild, dropping only to the mid-50s to low-60s by morning.

As the front lingers in the area, we keep scattered showers and thunderstorms going into the day Saturday. A low-end severe storm threat exists Saturday afternoon, though the main concern remains localized heavy rainfall and potential flash flooding. Highs reach the mid to upper 70s in the Upstate.

Sunday dries out. The frontal boundary pushes back to the south and east, allowing drier air to move back in. Partly sunny skies return, and it feels noticeably cooler—highs only reach the low-70s across both the mountains and Upstate. Wind gusts reach 20+ mph at times, so it’s a breezy day.

One More Storm Chance Monday

Monday serves up one final round of showers and thunderstorms as a cold front slides in from the north. Most of the day starts mostly sunny, but scattered storms develop as the day goes on. Highs climb back to the mid 70s to around 80 before storms arrive. By Monday night, rain ends and skies clear out.

The Dry Pattern Arrives

Tuesday through Thursday, we return to a quieter pattern. Dry, stable, and cooler-than-normal air settles in as an upper-level low positions off the East Coast. Sunny skies dominate all three days, with no rain in the forecast. Temperatures run noticeably below normal, with highs in the upper-70s to low-80s in the Upstate and the mid 70s in the mountains. This is about 5° to 10° below normal for early June. Low humidity makes these days feel pleasant making for some great opportunities to get outside. Lows dip into the 50s, so you may need a light layer in the mornings.

Planning Ahead

Saturday and Monday, keep your umbrella handy and monitor radar for any heavy rain. Travel plans Saturday may need adjusting, and don’t be caught off guard by flash flooding in flood-prone areas. Sunday offers a great opportunity to dry out and get outside.
