On Wednesday morning, Dr. Jody Penland, superintendent of Laurens County School District 55 (LCSD55), informed select district personnel of his intention to retire, effective June 30.
Penland’s retirement became official during a special called meeting of the LCSD55 board of trustees on Thursday afternoon.
Penland has served for more than 30 years in education, beginning as a math teacher at Laurens County School District 56 (LCSD56) and in administration as director of Testing, Research and Accountability, assistant superintendent for pupil services and co-interim superintendent, before accepting the role of superintendent in the spring of 2024…
