FIRST ALERT: Heat Intensifies Across the Western Carolinas This Weekend

GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – The heat ramps up across the Upstate and Western Carolinas through the weekend, bringing temperatures in the low-to-mid 90s with the strongest impact hitting Friday. Scattered thunderstorms impact the mountains Thursday and Friday, with a few strong storms possible.

Today Into Tonight: Hot with a Few Mountain Storms

The heat is here and it’s sticking around for the next four days. Temperatures soar into the low 90s in the Upstate to the upper 80s in the mountains. The humidity is high and makes it feel several degrees warmer through out the day.

Morning clouds give way to mostly sunny skies. But a few scattered showers and thunderstorms develop over the mountains between 2 and 3 p.m., with storms lingering into the early evening.

A few of the storms could have some microburst winds so be on alert. The moisture is limited as the air mass is fairly dry so the threat for heavy rain is much lower than the last few days.

Friday: Hottest Day of the Week; Storms Intensify in Afternoon

Friday is the hottest day of the week. The Upstate climbs to the mid-90s with heat index values approaching 100 degrees—especially south of I-85 in the Upstate.

Remain hydrated and take frequent breaks if spending time outdoors. The mountains are hot, too, with highs in the upper 80s to around 90.

Showers and thunderstorms fire up in the mountains during the evening.

Some of these storms become strong with damaging wind gusts possible. While the storm coverage is limited, anything we see could pack a punch so be on high alert.

Saturday and Sunday: Hot and Mostly Sunny; Isolated Showers Possible

The weekend settles down with mostly sunny skies and temperatures hovering in the low-to-mid 90s both days in the Upstate and the upper 80s in the mountains. Heat index values approach 100 degrees on both Saturday and Sunday. Pop-up showers and thunderstorms are possible each afternoon.

Next Week: Showers Move In; Cooler

A weak system brings scattered showers and thunderstorms Monday afternoon. Activity persists through Monday night. Temperatures drop back into the mid-to-upper 80s. This marks the start of a cooler pattern heading into midweek…
