GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – Typical summer heat and scattered afternoon thunderstorms continue across the Western Carolinas through the weekend. A few storms could be strong to severe, especially in the mountains today.

Sunny skies dominate Friday across the region which helps to crank up the heat quickly. Upstate temperatures soar to the mid-90s while mountain areas climb into the low 90s.
Heat index values spike to around 100° south of I-85 when you add in the humidity.
First Alert Weather Day is in effect for the mountains. Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms rumble into the mountains and western Piedmont of North Carolina late Friday afternoon and evening between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m.
