Cell tower regulations could create distance between towers, homes in Greenville County

GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) — Greenville County leaders are moving to give the county more oversight over where new cell towers can be built, after residents expressed concerns about the lack of notice or community input.

The proposed ordinance would require new cell towers to be at least 1,500 feet from homes and 3,000 feet from schools.

The ordinance also encourages wireless companies to use existing towers when possible rather than building new ones.

If approved, Greenville County could become the first county in South Carolina to implement cell tower regulations.

Residents say they had little warning
