Roadway closed for years in Upstate city reopening to drivers

TRAVELERS REST, S.C. (WSPA) – A heavily traveled roadway that was closed for years in Travelers Rest is reopening to through traffic. City leaders said the Poinsett Highway Streetscape Project is now complete.

It is a welcome, long-awaited change for drivers. This construction project cost more than $9 million, according to Travelers Rest city officials. It also entailed traffic changes, which included adding a street light to the intersection of North Poinsett Highway and Tubbs Mountain Road and a diagonal crossing to the Main Street-Center Street intersection.

Construction also included rebuilding and repaving the road, adding lighting, pedestrian crossings and making stormwater improvements…
