Upstate man pleads guilty in million dollar fraud scheme

An Anderson man will serve just three months in jail after pleading guilty to financial crimes.

39 year old, Matthew Joseph Jones entered guilty pleas to charges of breach of trust, obtaining money under false pretenses and securities and commodities fraud. Court documents say Jones made over a million dollars worth of fraudulent transactions.

Officials say Jones created false accounts, manipulated commodity purchases and solicited false investments. Jones admitted to lying to the victim to obtain money for personal use. He was sentenced to 10 years but that sentence was suspended to just 90 days in jail with 5 years of probation to follow.
