Fountain Inn elementary, high school to be expanded to keep up with growing population

GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) — Fountain Inn Elementary and High School will be expanded to accommodate more students.

The Greenville County School Board voted Tuesday to allocate an additional $16.9 million to expand Fountain Inn High School, bringing the total renovation budget to $48.4 million.

The district plans to build 12 new classrooms and two fine arts labs. It also plans to add more student and faculty parking and expand the existing stadium.

Fountain Inn High School opened in 2021. Scott Carlin, the district’s executive director of facilities, said the expansion is needed because the Fountain Inn community is growing quickly.

“We didn’t anticipate the amount of growth that we experienced in the Fountain Inn area when the original school was built,” Carlin explained.

Once the renovations are completed, the school will have the capacity to have 2,250 students enrolled. The school can currently accommodate 1,000 students.

The school board also voted to buy nearly an acre of land to expand Fountain Inn Elementary School. The district plans to turn the elementary school into a Kindergarten through 8th Grade school.
