Man arrested following shooting at Upstate store

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (WSPA) – A man was arrested in connection to a shooting at an Upstate store Friday night.

According to the Spartanburg Police Department, officers responded to the QuickTrip, located at 448 East Saint John Street, around 10:20 p.m. regarding what was originally dispatched as a man-down call in the parking lot.

Officials said moments later the call was upgraded to a shooting incident.

Upon arrival, officers said a victim was lying on the ground in the rear of the QT parking lot suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital for their injuries where they are stable but in critical condition.

According to the police department, surveillance video from the store revealed the victim was walking with the male suspect when he was shot several times.

Officials said the suspect left the scene in a silver Nissan sedan.

Criminal investigators identified 19-year-old Demarion Jeshure Smith as a person of interest on Friday. Smith was later located and arrested the same day.
