Additional arrest announced following officer involved Upstate shooting

An additional arrest has been made following a fatal officer involved shooting. As we previously reported, the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic dispute on South Piedmont Highway, Friday night.

Deputies were met by two suspects, one of them was armed and shots were fired. One suspect, 51 year old Robert Campbell was killed in the shooting. Another suspect was taken into custody at the scene, he’s identified as 38 year old, Larry Doyle Simmons.

Simmons is charged with 3rd degree assault after investigators say he hit the victim with a wooden board during the dispute.

The incident is still under SLED investigation, which is standard protocol statewide in officer involved shootings. Sheriff Hobart Lewis says that more details on the incident are expected to be released in a video in Mid-March.
