Man pleads guilty to deadly shooting in Upstate courthouse parking lot

LAURENS COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – A Laurens County man was sentenced to decades in prison for shooting and killing a man he was involved in a custody dispute with outside of the Laurens County Courthouse.

According to court officials, Stephen Andrew White pleaded guilty Monday morning in court to charges of murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

One arrested in fatal Laurens Co. courthouse shooting

In August 2024, 34-year-old Erin Thomas was leaving the Laurens County Courthouse, where he had been in court for a child custody and domestic relations case in which White was the defendant.

As the two were leaving the courthouse, White reportedly crash his vehicle into Thomas and shot him. Thomas was flown to the hospital where he died from his injuries…
